I was first introduced to martial arts when I was sixteen by a long time friend and training partner Justin Brasian, who studied and competed in Lau Gar Kung Fu & Kick Boxing. I trained for about 2 years, competed once at the Sheffield British Open and gained my third Kyu grade blue sash. The next few years I moved around the country attending college courses and then University in Manchester. I joined a Shaolin Kung Fu club but training was usually replaced with partying and long nights down the student union bar. It wasn't until I moved back to Lincolnshire in early 2000 that my training started again. In the window of my local shop I saw a poster advertising the opening of Louth's first Ju-Jitsu club. The first few weeks of the club opening it was just Sensei Andy Steer and I training and then Laura joined. Now six years and many hard training sessions later both of the clubs longest members have achieved their Dan grades, Sensei’s first ever Black Belts. To see a picture from the day and to hear how the grading went take a look at News & views on this site. Over the past five years I have also been training twice a week in kickboxing and on November 11th I took my Dan grading in front of five high ranking martial artists from a wide variety of styles. After two and half hours of extremely hard work consisting of circuit training, pad work and syllabus training I was asked to leave the room so that the panel could make their decision! As in my Ju-Jitsu grading this waiting was the hardest part. After what seemed like a life time I was asked back into the room where I was told the good news, I Passed! Here is a photo of the panel presenting me my certificate. image

Martial arts have become a major part of my life over the last five years and I would like to thank all my instructors for putting so much energy and passion into their teaching. Thanks Senseis Please feel free to contact me at james@lincoln-jujitsu.co.uk
